We welcome Fresh Start Catering to Chenderit School from 1st January 2020.
Following a student ‘canteen’ survey in 2018 and a rigorous tendering process in 2019, we welcomed Fresh Start Catering to Chenderit School from 1st January 2020.
Fresh Start Catering’s ethos about food and drink mirrors our own and we are delighted that they use locally sourced produce as much as possible – Fresh Start even have their own local farm! Their food is prepared fresh on–site every morning and they prioritise products that are in season and at their freshest, ensuring that only the best will go into our students’ meals.
The first week back in January has seen a total revolution to our food provision. Fresh Start’s passion for quality, freshly prepared meals is unlike any other concept in the education sector, and we are excited and proud that Chenderit is at the forefront of this revolution. This revolution doesn’t stop with the food; Fresh Start’s vision is to serve their delicious meals as ‘street food’ to reflect the latest high street trends, with products packaged in biodegradable containers which fully compost and recycle back onto the land as plant feed.
Fresh Start’s service provision will continue to evolve with plans to reduce queuing with an additional service counter by Easter, which will also be open to the 6th form at off peak times.
Our favourites last week included a breakfast burrito with sausage, egg and tomato salsa, and the cutest breakfast pots of smashed avocado, scrambled eggs and grilled tomato. Break time giant pretzels were amazing and literally sold like hotcakes as did the fish finger wraps on Friday and all of this before the lunchtime delights, where we were treated with crispy wok fried cauliflower on rice noodles, the most delicious ever homemade meatballs, katsu curry, and homemade spicy veggie or beef burger in brioche buns with coleslaw. If this is not enough there are Greek salads, Caesar salads, jacket potatoes and a range of sandwiches, wraps and baguettes, plus fruit flapjack, apple granola bars and carrot cake to die for, which I’m told is also healthy!
Congratulations to our new catering team for a fabulous first week and for embracing the innovative and exciting new menus. We are loving your food and looking forward to the evolving provision and menus.
