English Department

Students build upon the knowledge, skills and understanding taught in previous key stages. At Key Stages Three, Four and Five, students are taught new skills through ambitious, accessible and meaningful texts.  Termly assessment helps students to clearly see how, where and why they are making progress and what they need to do to develop their skills and understanding.  We don't mark "for the sake of it" - we assess and feedback meaningfully, with our students in mind, to consider how best to help them progress through English academically and personally.

Through our reading we seek to develop a love of the subject, to promote engagement with a range of high quality literature and to give students the best possible life chances through both staff and students having the highest expectations of learning.
